System with sprayable sealants

The proper sealing of the connection joint between the window and the structure or façade ensures usability. Defects in the seal are a common cause of structural damage. Depending on the outer wall system, there are different connections between the component and the wall. The usual design creates a joint between the outer wall and the frame construction, which must be sealed against moisture both on the outside as well as on the room side. There is no generally applicable solution, since different connections to components require different sealing solutions. We would like to present two different variants to you today.

The system with many possible combinations

Variant 1 with OTTOSEAL® M 360

OTTOSEAL® M 360

The hybrid sealant for building joints
  • Can be painted over
  • Silicone-free
  • Durable and robust joint
  • RAL assembly
Technical datasheet

OTTOSEAL® M 361

The structure-hybrid sealant for building joints
  • Structured look
  • Can be painted over
  • Silicone-free
  • RAL assembly
Technical datasheet

OTTOCORD PE-B2

The closed-cell PE back-up foam rod
  • Water-repellent
  • Closed-cell
  • Very rigid
Technical datasheet

Assembly steps with OTTOSEAL® M 360

Step 1

  • Insert the construction element, align it and secure it
  • Measure the joint width and choose the correct OTTOCORD PE‑B2 back-up foam rod dimension
  • Then insert the back-up foam rod on the outside – pay attention to the correct insertion depth (joint depth) here.
  • Then you can spray the joint with OTTOSEAL® M 360/OTTOSEAL® M 361 and smooth off.

Step 2

  • Foam the joint evenly with OTTOPUR PU foams (refer to the OTTOPUR products’ technical data sheet)
  • Be sure not to inject too much foam

Step 3

  • Insert the OTTOCORD PE-B2 back-up foam rod into the still-moist OTTOPUR PU foam and again pay attention to the correct insertion depth (joint depth).

Step 4

  • In the last step, you can spray the joint on the inside with OTTOSEAL® M 360/ OTTOSEAL® M 361 and smooth it off.

Variant 2 - alternative sealants

OTTOSEAL® A 710

The acrylic sealant for RAL assembly inside
  • RAL assembly
  • Frost-resistant
  • Extremely elastic
  • Can be painted over
Technical datasheet

OTTOSEAL® S 730

The building joint silicone for exterior RAL assembly
  • RAL assembly
  • Resistant to mould
  • Non-corrosive
  • Very long-lasting joint
Technical datasheet

OTTOCORD PE-B2

The closed-cell PE back-up foam rod
  • Water-repellent
  • Closed-cell
  • Very rigid
Technical datasheet

Assembly steps with alternative sealants

Step 1

  • Insert the construction element, align it and secure it
  • Measure the joint width and choose the correct OTTOCORD PE‑B2 back-up foam rod dimension
  • Then insert the back-up foam rod on the outside – pay attention to the correct insertion depth (joint depth) here
  • Then you can spray the joint with OTTOSEAL® S 730 or OTTOSEAL® P 720 and smooth off

Step 2

  • Now you can foam the joint evenly with OTTOPUR PU foams (refer to the OTTOPUR products’ technical data sheet).
  • Be sure not to inject too much foam

Step 3

  • Insert the OTTOCORD PE-B2 back-up foam rod into the still-moist OTTOPUR PU foam and again pay attention to the correct insertion depth (joint depth)

Step 4

  • In the last step, the joint is sprayed on the inside with OTTOSEAL® A 710 and smoothed off.

The OTTO professional tip

When using 1-component foams, it is recommended to moisten the wall reveal. The 1-component foam needs moisture when curing - if there is no moisture, it cannot expand properly. This can lead to post-expansion later on if the air humidity would increase. In freezing temperatures, OTTOPUR OP 950 should be used and the moistening should be done with warm water here. The rule of thumb for the required amount of water is: One 750 ml PU foam can needs about 60 ml water.
