Numerous areas of application

Wall panels have long been used for decorative purposes, but they are also an attractive solution in other areas.

  • Sanitary: A quick and easy renovation option, they can be glued directly onto existing tiles.
  • (Commercial) Kitchens: As a splash guard for rear walls backsplashes.
  • High traffic areas: As impact protection, e.g. in hospitals, to prevent damage to walls

How it's done

OTTOCOLL® M 595 can either be taken from the 5 kg plastic pail or the aluminium foil bag and applied directly to the wall or panels. We explain the various application options in our detailed application instructions. Guaranteed success.

In our video, we show you step by step how to quickly and easily bond wall panels to old bathroom tiles with OTTOCOLL® M 595.

Step-by-step guide: Bonding panels to the wall

Attach wall panels to the wall in 5 simple steps.

1. Surface preparation

For successful adhesion of OTTOCOLL® M 595, the wall surface must be stable free of grease and dust. In the case of absorbent substrates such as aerated concrete, the load bearing capacity can be improved with OTTOFLEX® Deep Primer. In sanitary areas it is possible to apply directly onto the OTTOFLEX® Protective coating. Optimum adhesion is achieved by cleaning with OTTO Cleaner T.

2. Preparing the OTTOCOLL® M 595 plastic pail

After opening the container, remove the packet of silica beads and then, starting at the container edge, pull off the film and remove any hardened material if necessary (do not stir in!). If the adhesive is not needed in its entirety, save the silica bead packet and the film for resealing later.

3. Application of OTTOCOLL® M 595

There are two ways to apply OTTOCOLL® M 595:

  • On the wall: Provides a firm surface and levels out any unevenness.
  • On the panels: Allows a targeted application of the adhesive.

The adhesive can be applied with a spatula trowel or directly with a toothed spatula notched trowel.

Tip: A toothed spatula notched trowel size B7 or B12 is recommended for uneven walls.

4. Attaching the wall panel

Before attaching the wall cladding panel, the adhesive must first be moistened. This step is not required if a slightly moist, absorbent (but touch-dry) substrate is being used. If the wall cladding panel is to bonded at a specific distance from the floor, load-bearing supports (e.g. wooden wedges) are  required. Set the wall cladding panel down on the floor or substructure material and press, working from the bottom to the top. Load-bearing supports can be removed after approx. 30 minutes, but further loads should be avoided until 48 hours after bonding. To ensure the adhesive fully cures and the reaction product evaporates, exterior sealing of the top side of the wall panel is only recommended after 7 days. The bottom and side joints can be filled once the load-bearing supports transfer has been removed.

5. Airtight sealing of the container

To reuse OTTOCOLL® M 595, the container must be sealed airtight:

1. Pour the adhesive in the centre
2. Remove any hardened material
3. Apply film and press air pockets flat
4. Insert the silica beads and close the container

As OTTOCOLL® M 595 is suitable for a wide range of applications, all relevant product properties should be tested in advance and verified in practice. The information in the current technical data sheet must also be observed.

Application from the aluminium foil bag

Application using a gun

For OTTOCOLL® M 595 in the aluminium foil bag, use either a hand-operated or accumulator gun suitable for foil bags.

This is how it works:

1. Open the aluminium foil bag
2. Place the bag nozzle on top
3. Insert the aluminium foil bag into the gun

Professional tip: Spread directly from the aluminium foil bag

Alternatively, the desired amount of adhesive can be spread directly from the aluminium foil bag using a spatula or similar. Further processing is then carried out using a toothed spatula.
