Lightweight, durable and versatile: plastics have become an integral part of our everyday lives. Around 400 million tonnes of plastic are produced every year.
However, plastic presents us with a major environmental problem: it takes 450 years to completely degrade. For this reason, it is important to extend the life cycle of plastics that have already been produced. Recycling used plastic and returning it to the circular economy conserves resources and reduces waste.
One way to recycle plastics is to utilise post-consumer waste. This means processing packaging materials such as PET bottles, plastic packaging, etc. that are properly disposed of / recycled by the end consumer.
The material obtained this way is called recyclate. The recyclate is used as flakes, regrind or granulate in the manufacture of new plastic products.
OTTO takes responsibility for the environment and society. Sustainable management has therefore been a key aspect of OTTO's business activities for many years.
One important aspect of this is preservation of valuable resources in order to improve the environmental conditions for current and future generations. One of our goals is to convert all products for which it is technically possible to packaging containing at least 40 % of recyclate material by 2030. According to a study by Magdeburg Stendal University of Applied Sciences*, around 1.45 tonnes of CO2 can be saved for every tonne of recyclate used.
The proven OTTO quality is of course also guaranteed in the new recyclate cartridges, as they undergo extensive quality testing. You continue to receive the same content at the same price and at the same time make an active contribution to reducing the waste of resources. The OTTO recyclate cartridges can be recognised by their new grey colour and the recycling logo.
